When Can a Child Start Learning the Quran?
There is no single answer that fits everyone, but many experts agree that starting at a young age is best. The ideal age for children to memorize the Quran depends on their ability to comprehend and their capacity to stay consistent.
Children’s Ability to Comprehend Based on Age Groups:
Ages 3 – 5 years:
- It is preferable to start with short surahs, such as Al-Fatiha.
Ages 6 – 10 years:
- At this stage, children become more fluent and can memorize more deeply.
- They have a stronger ability to engage and focus during this active developmental phase.
Ages 11 and above:
- This is the ideal time to teach the meanings of the verses they memorize.
- They can apply Tajweed rules and practice proper recitation.
- Their minds are more prepared for understanding, which helps accelerate memorization and solidify learning.
